How do I use my air vents?

Using the air vents properly will give you great control over you cooking temperature. In general, the more airflow you have, the higher your cooking temperature.

  1. When you fire up your BBQ, keep both vents open until your coals are ready to start grilling.

  2. If you are direct grilling, you will want your BBQ hot, so keep both vents open.

  3. If you are grilling indirect, we suggest to keep the bottom vent open and use the top vent to control you cooking temperature.

  4. If you are smoking, you will probably end up with the top vent closed.

  5. If you are doing a big piece of meat, you might even close the bottom vent after some time if you want the temperature lower for a slower cook.
